Uncertainty of the Sagnac interferometer-based measurement of the modal birefringence of polarization maintaining optical fibers
Presented is an analysis of the expanded uncertainty of an indirect measurement of modal birefringence of polarization maintaining fibers, based on the Sagnac interferometer and an optical spectrum analyzer. By using this method it is easy to achieve an expanded measurement uncertainty considerably lower than 1%, at a confidence level of 0.95, in measurements of fibers, whose birefringence is i...
متن کاملMovable dynamic grating-based optical delay line in polarization maintaining fibers
A new type of all optical delay line is realized in fibers. A local dynamic grating reflector can be generated everywhere in the fiber, demonstrating >1 μs delay for 650 ps pulses. OCIS codes: (060.4370) Nonlinear optics, fibers; (290.5900) Scattering, stimulated Brillouin; (060.3735) Fiber Bragg gratings The development of all-optical delay lines using various approaches has been considered as...
متن کاملMode-coupling analysis of anisotropic polarization-maintaining fibers.
We analyze the coupling between the fundamental vector modal fields of two parallel polarization-maintaining fibers. An improved coupled-mode theory is employed, which also applies to anisotropic materials. Results for the array-mode-propagation constants are presented as a function of the relative tilt angle between the principal axes of the two fibers.
متن کاملHigh frequency dynamic nuclear polarization.
During the three decades 1980-2010, magic angle spinning (MAS) NMR developed into the method of choice to examine many chemical, physical, and biological problems. In particular, a variety of dipolar recoupling methods to measure distances and torsion angles can now constrain molecular structures to high resolution. However, applications are often limited by the low sensitivity of the experimen...
متن کاملPolarization-sensitive sum-frequency generation microscopy of collagen fibers.
Point-scanning sum-frequency generation (SFG) microscopy enables the generation of images of collagen I fibers in tissues by tuning into specific vibrational resonances of the polypeptide. It is shown that when collagen-rich tissues are visualized near the 2954 cm(-1) stretching vibration of methylene groups, the SFG image contrast is higher compared to the contrast seen in nonresonant second-h...
